About

As a fully qualified child and adult therapist and counsellor, learn a bit more about my expertise and how I can help.

Qualified Therapist and Counsellor

A Brief History of Me

When looking for a therapist for yourself, or for your child, I feel it is important for you to know more about me.

My name is Claire, and I have a level 4 Diploma in Counselling Practice, but more specifically how to work in a Psychodynamic way as well as a Person-Centred approach. I am an individual member of the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) and am fully insured.
After completing a BA Hons degree in Education Studies with a focus on SEND and Inclusion, I then worked in a range of educational settings from early years to secondary, to support children and young people with anxiety, social and emotional difficulties as well as a range of neurodiverse diagnosis.

This experience led to employment for the local authority in a Family Support role, working with both parents and young people to understand their wishes and feelings and supporting them in understanding them.

My counselling room is based in Doncaster (with parking) and is accessible via car or public transport. I also offer online sessions and can tailor the initial communication with you or your child in the form of providing them with a profile of myself, email or text message to ease any anxieties over the first session.

My aim is to equip children with the right tools to be able to navigate and overcome the challenges that life may present to them.

ABOUT

Qualifications and Expertise

Why did I choose to become a Children and Young Persons Counsellor? I have always held an interest in counselling and psychotherapy and how experiences in childhood can shape the development of a person through growing up and into adulthood. I believe that by understanding why a person thinks and feels a certain way, gives them the choice to change it.

Growing up in this current society managing the impact of covid and social media can be overwhelming, and I want to provide children and young people with a space where they feel as though they have some control and can explore any challenges or issues that they face.

Having neurodiverse children encouraged me to learn more about communication styles and how anxiety impacts in their thinking. I believe strongly in the importance of understanding your identity, and how talking therapy can support a positive self-image. I went on to complete a MA in autism and have utilised my experience in communication to support hundreds of families to communicate better and improve their self-worth and self-esteem. I now specialise in supporting young people and their parents/carers both pre and post diagnosis.
